New Special Edition Peugeot RCZ Onyx is Only for France and Germany

PSA Peugeot-Citroen May Cut up to 10 Percent of its French Workforce, Equal to 10,000 Jobs

The dark clouds over Europe are having a profound effect on the auto industry, especially outside the continent's powerhouse that is Germany. 

 

A PSA Peugeot Citroen union official told reporters today that the company might eliminate up to 10,000 jobs or about 10 percent of its total workforce in France to compensate for dwindling sales. 

 

Under a previous austerity plan announced in November of 2011, the French group had said that it would cut 6,000 positions through layoffs in its local operations. 

They will raise the job cuts target in France alone to 8,000-10,000,” said Christian Lafaye, head of Peugeot’s second biggest union FO, according to Bloomberg News.

 

Last week, PSA Peugeot Citroen CEO Philippe Varin told unions that after the company's European sales plunged 15 percent in the first five months of the year versus a 7.3 percent industry-wide fall, the automaker would need to increase its 2012 savings target of €1 billion (US$1.25 billion).

 

The French group, which declined to comment on the reports, is expected to meet with union representatives to present the new cost cutting measures later this month.

In April, PSA Peugeot-Citroen sold its Parisian headquarters for €245.5 million to lower its mounting debts.

Peugeot Launches Diesel-Electric Hybrid4 Version of 508 Sedan in Europe

Peugeot's diesel-electric HYbrid4 technology is now available with a third body style in the 508's range as after the crossover and station wagon models, the moniker has now been applied to the sedan variant.

Like its two other siblings, the 508 Hybrid4 makes use of a 2.0-litre HDi diesel engine delivering 161hp (163PS) that powers the front wheels and a 36hp (37PS) electric motor driving the rear wheels.

The system produces a combined output of 197hp (200PS) and offers a choice of four driving modes including 100 percent electric (ZEV), 4WD, Auto and Sport that can be selected through a four-way rotary switch on the centre console.  

According to the French manufacturer, the 508 Hybrid4 Sedan returns a combined fuel consumption of just 3.6lt/100km (65.3mpg US or 78.5mpg UK) with corresponding CoO2 emissions of only 95g/km.

It can reach 100km/h (62mph) from standstill in 9.0 seconds and continue to accelerate until 209km/h (130mph). 

 

The Hybrid4 models can be recognized only through a discreet badge on the front grille. 

 

The addition of the electric motor at the rear comes with a penalty in boot space as the Hybrid4 model has 355 litres compared to the standard model's 515 litres

.

In the UK, the 508 Hybrid4 saloon is priced at £31,450 with the first cars to arrive in showrooms in July.

Peugeot Car production in Slovakia

French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroen, said it would invest 130 million euros, equivalent to USD 187 million to start a new production at the plant located in Slovakia.
