The next generation of the Honda Fit, also known as the Jazz in markets such as Europe, Oceania and the Middle East and which is expected to be revealed in 2013, may spawn a small crossover model much in the likes of the successful Nissan Juke, according to a report from Japan's Nikkei business daily.
The
newspaper said Honda currently sells around 800,000 Fit/Jazz-based
models including the hatchback and the City sedan variants worldwide.
The addition of a crossover-flavored version, mainly targeting North
American and European consumers, could add another 400,000 units per
year.
Automotive News
added that if the story turns out to be true, Honda may build the
Fit-based crossover model alongside the hatchback at its new Mexican
plant that is scheduled to open in 2014.
Aside from the Nissan Juke, the Honda model would also compete against the Buick Encore (in North America), the Fiat 500X and the Opel Mokka and Chevrolet Trax (Europe and other select markets around the world).
